The most common question when choosing a Roman Shade,
“What’s the difference between a Flat Fold and a Knife Pleat?”
A true Flat Fold has no ribs in the material, which results in a flat front, however, the hem is soft, resulting in a style that requires hand-folding when raising the shade.
Traditionally, Knife Pleats have a rib placed on the front of the material and the fabric is pinched from behind, resulting in a horizontal seam across the front of the shade.
Pinching from behind is not a good idea when using patterned fabric.
The way our Knife Pleat Roman Shades are manufactured, the rib is sewn into the back of the shade, leaving the front without interruption and looking “flat” on the front.
